What is 'equality and diversity'?
Equality is the up-to-date term that has replaced ‘equal opportunities’. Equality should ensure that legal obligations to comply with anti-discrimination legislation are adhered to by organisations, companies, employers, professional bodies and so on. Equality will help to prevent people from being discriminated against on the grounds of race, sex, disability, sexual orientation, religion, belief, or age.
Diversity embraces a wide range of characteristics. In terms of the Fellowship, it is about valuing the benefits of having diversity in its staff, contractors, suppliers and members, bringing together the best of people’s talents whatever their backgrounds. Diversity is about the Fellowship respecting individual differences.
The Fellowship embraces equality and diversity as it brings a wide range of experience, ideas and creativity to its membership body and helps the Fellowship to benefit from a wide pool of talent.
